How to bring music into your homeschool curriculum (without any musical expertise)

Choosing homeschool your children is one of the greatest blessings in your parenthood, but it comes with plenty of challenges. Which curriculum do I use? How to structure their days? What values do I want them to focus on?

You wear many hats as a homeschool parent, here are some tips to help navigate how to include the arts in your homeschool.

  1. Understand the importance of the arts in your child’s overall development. You don’t have to be an expert to expose your child to the arts!

  2. Music is at its best when enjoyed, So find an instrument, teacher, activity they enjoy! Starting on piano can be a great head start, but they don’t HAVE to. Find an instrument they enjoy and start there!

  3. Work music into their normal homeschooling schedules and rhythms. Even listening to music and reflecting on it will help give them a well-rounded education

  4. There are a variety of different ways to get students involved in playing an instrument (At a variety of price points!). Check your local homeschool group for a community band or choir.

  5. Music materials are typically expense that can be reimbursed through your state. This typically includes Lesson fees, curriculum materials. Check with your local homeschool organization to see what could be covered.

  6. Learning Music is like playing a sport

Our goal is to help them develop rhythms of discipline and enjoyment, and gauge how hard we encourage them based on their development. We offer private lessons through KF MUSIC STUDIO, we would be honored to help you on your journey!
