How to immediately become a better Pastor

Let’s be real, as an ordained pastor, I really that there are so many things I could do to become a better Pastor of the Gospel of Jesus. I’m guilty of all of these, but when I think of the pastors I have met over the years that I really respect, they get these things right.

  1. Pray more privately than publicly. Before you talk to someone, or about a situation, take the time to pray for them and ask God to guide your thoughts, words, and actions.

  2. Have one less new idea, and refine a current idea. The grass is always greener on the other side, because that’s where you watered it. Instead of chasing the new idea, refine the idea that was new 3 months ago.

  3. Care for people. All the time, even if they don’t deserve it, especially if they don’t. Anticipate needs before people have to voice them.

  4. Invest in People with no strings attached. If you’re only pouring into and mentoring someone because of their future with the church, and not because you want to help someone, that’s not leadership, that’s manipulation.

  5. Do what you say you’re going to do. that’s it…

  6. Spread Kindness and grace even when speaking truth and having difficult conversations. Hard conversations can be messy, but that’s not a reason to be unkind.
