How do I buy my first guitar?

There are so many different types of guitars and when you’re first buying a guitar for yourself or for your child, it can be tough to know w where to start! Today’s episode is on practical tips for buying your first guitar!

It’s important to understand that the style of music that you’ll be playing really dictates if you should get an acoustic or an electric guitar. For most people, I would recommend an acoustic guitar, but if you’re trying to play some hard rock, then get an electric! Here are some things to consider!

  1. Your first guitar should be one that could last you a long time, though you will probably want to upgrade within 12-18 months. You will need to change the strings every 8-12 months, to make the guitar sound brand new.

  2. A good budget for a guitar should be between $150-$200 dollars. You can, for sure, spend more, but for most people, this will get you a quality instrument!

  3. A nylon string guitar is great for younger students starting out as they are easier on the fingers! If you are buying for a younger student, consider getting a nylon string guitar

  4. Most entry-level guitars hold their value if you take care of them, so if your student decides they don’t like the guitar after a few months, you could sell it for 60-75% of the new value (Though, I would recommend hanging onto it, they may come back to it!)
